About Bamboo Retreat

A family home with a century of stories, reborn as a place for you to slow down, gather, and feel at home in Coorg.

Inside the heritage home
Our story

A century-old home, given a second life.

Bamboo Retreat began as a traditional family house in the heart of Virajpet — close to a hundred years old, full of vintage wood, character and memory. Rather than tear it down, we restored it: keeping the antique soul intact while adding the comforts that make a modern stay effortless.

Today it sits on 1.8 acres wrapped in greenery, home to 50+ varieties of plants and bamboo that give the retreat its name. Step through the gate and the pace changes — this is a place to breathe out.

What makes us special

Characterful. Homely. Inspiring.

A handful of things our guests fall in love with, again and again.

Heritage character

Vintage wooden interiors and antique touches that carry a warm, rustic charm in every corner.

Wrapped in green

1.8 acres of lush surroundings with 50+ plant varieties and bamboo — serene, private, and calming.

Bonfire & BBQ

Evenings made for the outdoors — a bonfire for cosy conversations and a BBQ under the open sky.

A whole-villa retreat

Four ensuite king bedrooms for up to 12 — perfect for families, friends and intimate celebrations.

Home-cooked food

Fresh, homely meals guests rave about — prepared with care and served family-style.

Warm hospitality

A hands-on host and a caretaker on-site, so you're looked after from check-in to check-out.

A cosy corner of the villa
Hospitality

Hosted like family.

Our host may not always be on the property, but is reachable any time by call or message — and a trained, friendly caretaker stays on-site to make sure everything runs smoothly. Housekeeping is taken care of, fresh linen is laid out, and any little request is only a word away.

Guests tell us they arrive as visitors and leave feeling like they grew up here. That's exactly the feeling we set out to create.

Our promise

A stay that's comforting, grounded, and yours.

We keep things simple and sincere: a beautiful old home, looked after with care, in one of India's loveliest corners. No crowds, no fuss — just space to relax, reconnect, and make the kind of memories that pull you back to Coorg.

Both. The villa is usually booked as a whole unit for up to 12 guests, but booking select rooms is possible — just message us and we'll sort it out.

Do you have bunk beds / budget options for solo travellers?

Yes — there's a bunk-bed dormitory that's ideal for solo travellers and backpackers on a budget. Availability and pricing vary by season, so drop us a WhatsApp for today's rate.

Are meals included? What do they cost?

Meals are freshly cooked from a fixed menu and charged per person: breakfast ₹350, lunch ₹800, dinner ₹800, or an all-meals package at ₹1,700 (plus 18% GST, paid at the property). Veg and non-veg, with Jain on request. Please share preferences at least 48 hours ahead.

Can you arrange a bonfire or BBQ?

Yes — a bonfire can be arranged on request (₹1,200) and a BBQ at additional cost. Both are favourites for evenings under the open sky.

Is there a kitchen we can use?

No — guests don't have access to the kitchen, and outside food and delivery aren't permitted. Meals are taken care of for you.

Is parking available? Can I drive up?

Yes — you can drive all the way up to the parking area, and up to 2 cars can be parked comfortably. An EV charging facility is available (usage charges apply).

Is it pet-friendly?

Unfortunately not — this isn't a pet-friendly property.

Is it suitable for senior citizens or wheelchair users?

All four bedrooms are on the ground floor, which helps; however the property isn't wheelchair accessible and isn't recommended for guests with significant mobility challenges.

Is Wi-Fi / mobile network reliable?

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all rooms (subject to network), and BSNL / Airtel work fairly well here.

Is there power backup?

Yes — in case of a power cut, a generator keeps the basics running (lights and fans).

What about the security deposit?

A refundable deposit of ₹10,000 is collected with the booking and refunded within 5 working days of check-out, provided guest count and timings are adhered to.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 2:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. Early check-in or late check-out may be possible subject to availability.

Can I host an event, celebration or a shoot?

Yes — the villa is suitable for events and shoots (costs may differ from the stay cost). Tell us what you have in mind.

Can I invite day visitors?

Generally not, but with prior permission and within reasonable limits it may be allowed — visitors must carry ID and an extra charge may apply.

Coorg cuisine spread
A Taste of Coorg

Eat like a Kodava.

Coorg's cuisine is one of India's best-kept secrets — smoky, tangy and deeply local, built around rice, wild greens, pork and the region's own souring vinegar, kachampuli. Here's what to seek out while you're here.

Have it cooked for you →
Must-try dishes

Six plates you can't leave without.

The icon · Pork

Pandi Curry

Coorg's legendary pork curry — dark, spiced and soured with kachampuli vinegar.

Steamed · Rice

Kadambuttu

Soft steamed rice dumplings, made to soak up every drop of curry.

Rice bread

Akki Roti

A warm, soft rice flatbread — a staple at every Kodava table.

String hoppers

Noolputtu

Delicate steamed rice strings, light and lacy, served with coconut.

Chicken

Koli Curry

The Kodava chicken curry — fiery, fragrant and full of black pepper.

Monsoon special

Baimbale Curry

Tender bamboo-shoot curry — a rainy-season delicacy unique to Coorg.

And to drink

Sip the hills.

Plantation grown

Coorg Filter Coffee

From the estates all around you — strong, aromatic, unmissable.

Homemade

Coorg Fruit Wines

Local passion-fruit, plum and ginger wines — a Kodava speciality.

Local harvest

Honey & Oranges

Wild forest honey and the famous Coorg mandarin orange.

The secret to it all is kachampuli — a dark, tangy vinegar pressed from the Coorg gummi-gutta fruit that gives Kodava curries their unmistakable sour edge.

Veg & non-veg versions of many Coorg dishes can be cooked fresh at the villa — just ask 48 hours ahead. See our meals →
