About Sulo Villa

A home named in the loving memory of Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela, built by her daughter Dr. Madhavi N Gunasheela

Inside Sulo Villa
Our story

Mother's love in the name

Sulo Villa carries the name of Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela, one of India's foremost pioneers in obstetrics, gynaecology and IVF( Invitro Fertilization) — the first Test-Tube baby in South India was her contribution to the country, among many other firsts.

Sulo Villa built by her daughter Dr. Madhavi N Gunasheela, a physician and an author, has named it in the loving memory of her mother.

A traditional laterite-and-clay-tile home on the quiet shore of Malpe, has been created to feel less like a hotel, and more like a home.

A doctor's attentiveness to detail, and a writer's eye for creativity shaped this home.

This is a coastal house where guests are looked after like family, and the days are dictated by the tide.

"Sulo" once meant comfort to countless families — and now it means comfort by the sea.

A legacy of care

Five decades of pioneering medicine

In 1975, Dr. Sulochana Gunasheela and Dr.M Gunasheela co-founded the Gunasheela Surgical and Maternity Hospital. She pioneered laparoscopy in South India in 1978, achieved South India's first IVF birth in 1988, and built an institution that has since cared for more than 2.7 lakh families — celebrating its Golden Jubilee, 50 years, in 2025. It is this legacy of trust and heartfelt care that Sulo Villa is built upon.

What makes us special

Traditional. Homely. By the sea

A handful of things our guests fall for, again and again.

Right by the sea

A three-minute walk to Malpe Beach, with sea-view rooms and salt air.

Coastal architecture

Laterite walls, a clay-tile roof and wooden ceilings — built in the local style.

Home-cooked food

Fresh Karnataka breakfasts, prepared with care and served warm.

A whole-villa retreat

Five bedrooms for families, friends and intimate gatherings.

Garden & terrace

Green corners and an open terrace to slow down and breathe.

A doctor family's care

Hospitality carried from the hospital to the shore — the guest as family.

A quiet corner of the villa
Hospitality

Atithi Devo Bhava — the guest as family

When a family has spent fifty years caring for people when most vulnerable, hospitality is another means of showing love.

Sulo Villa comfort shows in small details — spotless rooms, genuine warmth, and the sense that someone has designed it for your comfort.

Guests arrive as visitors, and leave feeling like they've come home to the coast.
